This course focused primarily on relationship of American foreign policy and strategy from the perspective of political philosophy. The course aimed to raise questions about the relation of American regime principles to the diplomacy and strategy which implement these principles in the international sphere.
During this course I worked with two other students to conduct a foreign policy brief and presentation concerning the Latin American drug trade in order to analyze and develop a strategy to decrease the amount of drug trafficking in Latin America and United States borders. In preparation for our brief, we had to make sure we were familiar with the Latin American drug trade and then identify policies that were set in place to stop drugs from crossing into US boarders and why the current and past policies were ineffective. We then had to come up with our policy recommendations and choose the best one to present to the president and our colleagues.
It was both extremely interesting and beneficial to learn how to write and present a policy brief but it was also challenging incorporating three different individual writing and presentation styles and having them flow together. This experience has increased my critical analysis skills tremendously. Please click below to see my policy brief document.
